Nomura Mechanized Robot (1957)

For every genre, there is an icon. And for postwar Japanese battery-operated robots, it’s Mechanized Robot. Clearly based on Robby the Robot from the 1956 MGM classic, Forbidden Planet, Nomura’s toy is both the first and most accurate period rendition of the movie robot. Though scores of Robby imitations would flood the market, none captured the style and action of Nomura’s 14-inch toy.
